Comments from the Skip

As you know, Cheryl Bernard and Co. fought hard but in vain. They didn't qualify for the Provincial and that was played in the very last end. Opponent skip was solid enough and did what she had to do to close it out and prevent Team Bernard to steal. Here some comments of Cheryl right after this heartbreaking loss.

“My calendar is wide open, so that’s going to be strange. Somewhere hot maybe . . . that might be good. It’s been a long time since we haven’t been in provincials so, yeah, I’m sure it’ll sink in and it’ll be even more disappointing. It’s tough. Our team has been working really hard this year and for sure should have got to provincials. But it wasn’t in the cards.”

“It wasn’t enough. They played really well. It was a really good game, really fun to play, just not so fun to lose. We battled out there and it’s unfortunate when it doesn’t go your way.”

“It was funny. It was hit-and-miss in the games. I had a game I struggled at and some team games weren’t as strong as we needed to have. At this level here, Alberta is so tough and you just have to be on your ‘A’ game. It wasn’t ‘A’ all the time. I guess we learn from it. There are a couple of spiels left and hope that we can do something and get ourselves into a pre-trials spot and work toward that.”

That says much about how Team Bernard members feel.

Southern Alberta Playdowns

Ouch, that hurts! This tournament had a strange flavor; either they won easily or fought hard to lose at the finish line. This morning loss, hurts! To tell the truth, after 9 ends, that was almost a done deal for Eyamie, but Bernard bounced back to stay alive scoring 3 to level the match 7-7. You might have thought that the opponent was knocked down, and it was a chance for Team Bernard to steal the final end, but it just didn’t happen.

So, you all know that there isn’t another chance for team Bernard to qualify for the Provincials. That is not how it works in Alberta. Any other time, losing wouldn’t have been THAT bad, even if it’s always a pain, but with no way to do the provincials, there is no fight for the Scotties, meaning no more points and no chance to catch up to have one of those 3 remaining spots to go straight to the Olympic trial.

Is the Olympic dream over? Not yet. There are still chances, but there is a lot of work to do because there is a pretrial to win. Everything is still possible and when there is hope, there is chances.

Stay tuned for the latest on Team Bernard Members.

Southern Alberta Playdowns

Our ladies had a lot of work to do today, and it's not over: good news, they won their 2 matches today to stay alive - one more to go.

First match against Team Nixon was tricky at first but Team Bernard grabbed the momentum and never let go of it and won 8-2. Second game was a rematch of yesterday and Team Bernard members was determined to end the match with a different result - final score of 7-4 in the favor of TB.

Next and last match tomorrow morning at 9.30am (mt) against Team Eyamie, that's going to be quite a game. Ladies, you can do it!

Southern Alberta Playdowns

On the menu today, 3 matches, nothing less. Even harder when at the end of the day, you gotta fight to stay alive; the 2 first matches were tough losses. Trailing, twice they come back and ended up a little short – Hamilton won 8-7 and Jensen 9-7. After that, you can’t even think of losing, because you’ll be out and you gotta win the 4 straight games to make it. To do so, you still gotta take not only one match at the time, but one end at the time; so they came back on the ice with their best curling and won 11-2 against Team Brown.

Going to bed with positive vibes, and needing it, Team Bernard will play tomorrow at 9.30am(mt) against Amy Nixon and co. so let’s crosses our fingers for our girls. If a team can do it, it’s team Bernard. Let’s go Girls.
