World Vision

World Vision hosted the “No Child for Sale” event on November 19th to educate MPs and government officials on the importance of protecting children from the worst forms of child labour. 32 MPs, 4 senators, and over 100 guests attended. A special thanks goes out to the Voices for Children community who sent over 1000 letters to local MPs encouraging them to attend.

That article was took from the "voice for the world children" blog right here!

Road to the Roar

A heartbreaking loss that left us all speechless. They were so close for a moment, even that last rock was so close! Undeniable expression on Cheryl's face: Olympic's hope is over.... Great game thought, we can't deny that, it's just the result that hurts.

Road to the Roar ; in the playoffs

In the first match, Team Bernard was going against Team Webster; a 5-3 win in match that was played strategically. Webster is out and Bernard has one more win to buckle to make it to the playoffs ; mission accomplished in a brilliant 10-8 victory in which, let's be honest, Cheryl Bernard made incredible shoots in the tenth to force an extra. Team Bernard pulled out another rabbit out of the hat and won 10-8 and move to the playoffs against Team Sweeting.

It might be handy for those out of Canada to follow the match on http://www.curlinggeek.com/ ; oh well, in general, that's a lot better than following the live score. Thanks Allison for reminding me of it!

Next match tomorrow morning at 9am against Team Sweeting! Let's go Team Bernard!

Road to the Roar Update

Team Bernard had only one game today against Team Spencer and they found their way to victory again. Not sure that stats said it all but that win leave no doubt; Team Bernard can make it!  Next Match is tomorrow against Team Webster at 2.00pm.  GO TEAM BERNARD GO!

Road to the Road Update

Well, that wasn't the start we excepted, but now we have to live with it - and if a team can do it, it's Team Bernard. Ok, in short, Team Bernard lost their 2 games today. The first one started pretty bad with McCarville taking a 4-0 before the break. Then, Team Bernard started to play better and came back, but it was a little too late, falling short of a point ; Team Bernard 5 Team McCarville 6.

So, since you are playing the Road to the Road with 11 great teams, your next opponent is long time nemesis Shannon Kleibrink. If we dig a little, maybe we will find out that those 2 women have one of the longest rivalry in curling, but one thing for sure, that will be a great battle, too early for that kinf of battle if you ask me. Still, it was a better start, more consistent play but still not enough; they lost 5-6.

So you can guess that after such a day, Dennis needed a little something to relax after what it been through. Now, Team Bernard is in a precarious position as no more loss is allowed but if a team can make it, it's Team Bernard.  We gotta believe!!!

So ladies, go get a good night sleep and come back stronger for you next game. Oh, and opponent is going to be Spencer and the match is at 7pm tomorrow.

GO TEAM BERNARD!

Autumn gold update

What a great day of competition it was for Team Bernard, too bad they didn’t win their last match ... it was their third. First match was against Team Nielsen from Denmark and that was a great battle that ended 6-5 for Team Bernard as they scored a deuce to prevent an extra end.

Couple of hours later, they had the chance to get a rematch against the team that defeated them on their first match and this time, it was a different story. The 4th end was crucial, as Team Bernard scored 3 to get a lead that they kept till the end. Team Bernard 5 Team Auld 3.

So, their last match was against Team Jones. You know Team Jones, very offensive and I’d say this match was different from what we would have thought but Jones got the best... Team Bernard losing 1-4.

It was the last tournament before the pre-trials which will start Tuesday, November 5th. I will be updating every step of the way and we hope that Team Bernard will be able to get one of the two remaining spot for the Olympic Trials in December. Till then, they will practice and do everything they can to make that happen.

Autumn gold update

The score doesn't represent how tight their match against Carey was. Team Bernard losses 5-9 but it was 5-6 heading to the 8th end and they had to give it all to try stealing the point to level up the match. The house ended up with a lot of traffic and Carey managed to have 3 rocks closer to the center. ¸

The day and the tournament were not over and they had to go against Team Holland; another tight battle but this time it ended on Team Bernard’s side. Next match is tomorrow morning at 9.00am (mt). Let’s go ladies.

Autumn Gold update

Tournament started abruptly with a 7-4 loss against Team Auld. A grueling fifth end as Team Bernard allowed their opponents to score 3 points. Sliding to the B event, Team Bernard certainly didn’t give up and hammered Kaufman with a 9-1 win. The next match is tomorrow 9.00am (mt) against Team Carey.

Let’s go Ladies.

Prestige Hotels and Resorts Classic

Well, sometimes, there is just a little thing that change the momentum and once again, that little thing didn't go for Team Bernard. Both Teams were toe to toe but at the end, the american team managed to score 2 to get away with a great win ended Team Bernard tournament also.

There is one more tournament before the pre-trial and it's the Curlers Corner Autumn Gold in Calgary next week, and it all start this Friday, October 11th. Ladies, go get some precious momentum there!!!

Prestige Hotels and Resorts Classic

First match of the day was a tough order as Team Bernard was going against Team Sweeting. It was a really tight match with only a few points scored and Cheryl was pretty happy to nail it on the last rock. Team Bernard 3 Team Sweeting 2. They keep it rolling in the B event and next match was against Team Ott. Despite a lead of 5-3, Cheryl and co. dropped this one 8-5. They will now slide to the C event and no more loss is affordable. Let's go ladies.

Prestige Hotels and Resorts Classic

It wasn't a bad start, but it just didn't end they way we would have wanted, as Potter steal the last end. Team Potter 5 Team Bernard 4. No need to panic yet as they continue their road on the B event and Team Bernard was back on the ice later today against Team Galusha of yellowknife and they were able to keep their rythm all match long. Team Bernard 6 team Galusha 3.

Shoot out update

When the day ended last night, Cheryl, Susan, Lori and Shannon knew that it would be a long day if they wanted to qualify for the playoffs; in the C event, they weren't allow to lose and they needed to win 3 matches in a row to make it there.

The first match went really and all points were result of steals. Team Bernard 5 Team Kaufman 0.  Second match was a tighter fight and we had to wait till the very last rock to be sure they would win this one.    Team Bernard 6 Team Brown 5. In third match, everything was possible but inches made the different for the team from Russia. Team Sidorova 4 Team Bernard 2. Let's say they were "this" close to make but the tournament is over for Team Bernard.

Now 2 weeks off - well, off is a big word as they are going to practice - but next tournament is the Prestige Hotels and Resorts Classic in Vernon, Bristish Columbia.

Shoot Out Update

In Curling, even a 4-1 lead is sometimes not enough. It was the kind of game that could have gone either way but there was always an inch or two that made the difference and not on the favor of Team Bernard this time. Credit to Team Game who never gave up and finally managed to score enough points to defeat Team Bernard 6-4.

So, Team Bernard had to go against Team Kleibrink later on to stay alive in the tournament, as they now are in the C event and no more loss is affordable. Good for us, good for them, they made it. They played a strong game in defeated Kleibrink 7-2. Next game is Saturday at 12.30 pm (mt). LET’S GO GIRL!!!

Shoot Out Update

The tournament started pretty well with a 5-3 victory against Team Whyte. They started strong, leading 4-0 at some points, then it got a little complicated but they regrouped quick enough to record a first one.

Later on, they were going against Team Sonnenberg and as it is always against them, it was another tight fight that they finally lost 4-3. Team Bernard will now compete in the B event and will play against Team Game.

There were some great teams out there, so a great weekend to start the season. After managing to make it to the playoffs, Team Bernard wins the semi final against Team Kleibrink and the championship against Team Peterman. Way to go Girls!

Practicing

Team Bernard was in Edmonton a couple of weekend ago for an intense curling training. The pre-trial is a few months ago and they practice together as much as they can and don’t manage the effort.
