This celebration was held on April 5th when all the Calgarian Olympians had rendez-vous at the Olympic Plaza to be given the famous white hat in regard of the great work accomplished for their nation during the Olympics. You may like to visit my earlier entries done when it occurred to know more about it but i thought the following elements were nice additions.

White Hatting in images

To remind you the essential of the story, on April 5th, Team Cheryl Bernard was honored, among other local Olympian athletes, by the city of Calgary. They were offered a white hat to have represented so well our country to the last Olympics.

In case you want to know some more about the white hat tradition, it started back in 1961. Calgary’s white hat has long been a symbol of Calgary’s hospitality. The tradition of “white hatting” visitors or dignitaries has become known to the world as representing Calgary. The white hat is a unique gift that speaks directly to Calgary’s history and also to Calgary’s future. There are some criterions to meet, and with the way the represented Canada, there were no doubt that Cheryl and her team, Susan, Carolyn and Cory earned theirs.

Our Olympian honoured in Calgary

Hundreds of fans had rendez-vous Monday afternoon at the Olympic Plaza to celebrate their province athletes and their performances at the Vancouver Winter Games.

Of course, our Skip was there, among other athletes such Jon Montgomery, Melissa Hollingsworth and Carla McLeod. I added a picture of Cheryl with her white hat and some quotes from her while she was there.

"It's the first time I've ever received a white hat so it means a lot. It will go up on my wall".

"It was really positive that Own The Podium, more money was put in after the Olympics. We're going to keep advocating for that and keep showing what that money is doing for the athletes."

"I do think that Canadians are going to follow the athletes and remember the pride they felt about their country”.

"This is amazing! Calgary is always so great for that, so it’s great to see them all. It was the most amazing time of our life and we will never forget it".

One thing for sure Cheryl, we were proud that you were Canadian! We just hope you will hang around for some more years.
