DQ Miracle Treat Day Delight
Back
Nope, I hadn’t forgotten about you. The truth is I just came back from vacation in… Alberta and hung out with… Cheryl Bernard. Those who follow the team know that I work in collaboration with the Skip and her squad for quite some time to update Team Bernard’s different social media and website so it was very exciting to meet her in flesh and blood. We had a great time and it was fantastic to spend some quality time with her! Let me go through my pictures and I might share a couple in the weeks to come.
Don’t worry, I will catch up with the news and pictures that you might have missed this past month starting right now with a picture of the DQ Miracle Treat Day: Cheryl Bernard with Sam Richardson. Member of the all of fame, he will always be remembered as a great curling champion in the 50’s and 60’s. A great moment for both athletes.

To generate excitement around Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day, a number of hospitals will have activities a day or two before the main event. So, on August 9th, at the Calgary hospital, there will be a blizzard celebration with some famous athletes on the 4th floor theatre and kids are looking forward to that event. Carolyn Darbyshire, our unforgettable second of the Olympics silver medal team, will be there! The activities start at 11am to end around 3pm.

Since 1984, DQ has raised over $86 million for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals-including $5.5 million in 2010. Then, Cheryl participated at this Miracle Treat Day event from Calgary. This year, she will be at the Grasslands Dairy Queen on the corner of Gordon Road and Lewvan Drive in Regina. Join DQ and Cheryl and help make miracles happen. More details soon, stay tuned!

Cheryl Bernard, a busy woman
Despite the fact the season 2010-2011 is over, Cheryl Bernard has been really busy with different events. She did some speeches, she ran for Spring Sprint as a spokesperson for the Brain Tumour foundation, visited schools for Esteem Canada, participated in several DQ events such as their Guinness record for the biggest ice cream cake ever done and volleyball tournament, helped raised money for Grayson new curling rink, promoted her book, participated to the miracle weekend telethon for the Children Hospital, Kurl for kids and there are probably a lot of other commitments she has to attend to that we are not aware of. Busy woman, isn’t she ?

Miracle weekend
Did you talk to Cheryl today? She did her part in the event and answered the phone to take donation for a few hours, maybe you talk to her! Later on, she joined Dairy Queen Team who donated nearly 344 000$ to the Children Hospital. Way to go DQ!
Those are not the best pictures ever, but hey, I got some from that special event which raised 17,886,339$ for the Children Hospital in BC.

Dairy Queen Delights continue
So, yes, the Guinness record was broken – the biggest cake was built in Canada. Cheryl was presiding over the whole thing and had an eye on the construction of the 22,333 pounds cake at all time while entertaining the crowd eager the get a piece of that huge ice cream cake. "We’re not just going to break that record, we’re going to shatter it." said Bernard, and they did!
Apparently, she was a real tease and tormented the steadily amassing crowd frenquently asking “"Who wants ice cream?" , rhetorically, every 15-or-so minutes, whipping the crowd into a frenzy only to tell them that they have to wait "just a little longer." My kind of girl! lol
We also learn that Cheryl always has a box of Dilly Bars in “the deep freeze”. ;)

Dairy Queen Delights
I know I should keep some for tomorrow, but I like new stuff. The cake, which took 22 volunteers to put together, beat the previous world record by about 4,000 lbs: 22,333.6 lbs is the final weight.
“They won the gold medal,” Bernard said of the work of the 22 volunteers who put the cake together. “I had a couple pieces. The Oreo crumble was my favorite part.”
Visit the CNW Group website to grab the original and watch a little video about the event.

Dairy Queen Delights...
And, I am not talking about the ice cream cake - although, I'm gonna ask Cheryl if she liked her slice of that 21,000lbs cake. KHLee12, twitter user, is there right now, at Yonge & Dundas Square, and snapped a picture of our favorite skip. Thanks to technology and KHLee12, it's almost like being there. I'll have more later!
